The Kinesthetic Learner

Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing.  They retain the most information when they are able to practise the task themselves.  Kinesthetic learners can benefit from demonstrations and labs.  They enjoy field trips where they can apply what was learned in the class you to a real life experience.  Kinesthetic learners will retain more information when they take notes and write out any handout that is given in class.  They do not learn well by just reading or listening to a lecture.

TIP:  Kinesthetic learners have trouble sitting still during class.  Instead of fidgeting try chewing gum!

How do laptops affect kinesthetic learners?

Laptops can help kinesthetic learners take notes more easily.  Studies have shown that we can type faster than we can hand write.  Thus, kinesthetic learners will have an easier time trying to type everything that is done in class on a laptop, opposed to writing everything by hand.  Additionally, typing keeps your hands busy, so you can stay focused.

Kinesthetic learners feel the need to be organized.  Having a laptop organizer will immensely help kinesthetic learners.  Another way a kinesthetic learner can optimize their laptop's full capacity, is to create charts, graphs, and diagrams.  Adding these elements using a laptop is very simple, it can be as quick as a few mouse clicks.  Having pictures to break up text in notes will help kinesthetic learners study off of their notes.  Drawing diagrams, charts, and graphs by hand would take much too long.  Therefore a laptop is perfect for a kinesthetic learner.
